Borates are SAFE!

  • Borates contain no heavy metals and are completely safe to handle.
  • The EPA has determined that borates have very low risk to humans.
  • Borates have been used in household products for over 100 years.

Borates are safe in wood and lumber. We have washed our clothes in borax softened water and have washed our hands in Boraxo soap for almost an equal amount of time. In fact, many sterile eyewashes for contact lenses use Boric Acid in their formulations.

Borate Treated wood is completely safe to handle. Borate treated wood does not contain any heavy metals which can have harmful environmental effects.
